MEAN WHAT YOU SAY

Many people say one thing but mean another

Just say what you mean (to get straight to the point) and not waste yours or anyone else's time.
Don't say one thing in order to hint about something different.

People say when we get angry that we yell things we supposedly don't mean (often followed by apologies). But if we never meant them then why were the thoughts even in our heads in the first place?
Clearly we must have thought them true or pondered over it at some point. If something was then said, we must have meant it…a little bit. Why then was it a mistake to verbalize? Because we didn't mean it? Because it sounds mean, being so direct?
…Well, if we're not direct and attempt to sugar coat or filter everything then we'd spend an awful amount of time talking rather than getting anything accomplished.

MEAN WHAT YOU SAY AND SAY WHAT YOU MEAN

WHAT SHALL WE DO?

REPENTANCE & BAPTISM

"Repent and be baptized, every one of you…Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord." - Acts 2:38; 3:19

Read Luke 15:11-24

One of the most gripping stories in the Bible concerns a relationship crisis between a father and a son. Jesus told this story of a son who took his inheritance and went away and squandered it with "wild living." He ended up losing everything and living in despair. The Bible says he eventually "came to his senses" and determined to get up and return to his father. This is a picture of what is meant by repentance -- in essence, being truly sorry for our sins and desperate to restore our relationship with God, our heavenly Father.

WHAT SHALL WE DO?

1.    What did the prodigal son say to his father? Luke 15:21 -- "His son said to him, "Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son."

2.    What was the response of the father? Luke 15:22-24 -- "But his father said to the servants, "Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found."

3.    What did Jesus say causes heaven to celebrate? Luke 15:7 -- "In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven't strayed away!"

Repentance produces a real change in our hearts and is the fruit of God's grace truly working in our lives.

4.    Who did Peter declare Jesus Christ to be? Acts 2:36 -- "So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!"

5.    What did the people say in response to Peter's preaching? Acts 2:37 -- "Peter's words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?""

6.    What did Peter say they should do? Acts 2:38 -- "Peter replied, "Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.""

7.    What did Peter say they would receive if they would repent and be baptized? Acts 2:38 -- "The Holy Spirit."

8.    Who did this promise apply to? Acts 2:39 -- "This promise is to you, and to your children, and even to the Gentiles -- all who have been called by the Lord our God."

9.    What else did Peter say? Acts 2:40 -- "Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all listeners, "Save yourselves from this crooked generation!""

10.    What happened to those who accepted the message? Acts 2:41 -- "Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day -- about 3,000 in all."

11.    Once they were added to the local body of believers, what did they do? Acts 2:42-46 -- "All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals, and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity -- all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved."

Peter preached the message of the cross -- that Jesus is both Lord and Messiah. The result? The people were "cut to the heart." They responded by asking, "What shall we do?" The answer to their question was fourfold:

1.    Repent

2.    Be baptized.

3.    Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

4.    Be added to the church -- the community of believers.

CALIFORNIA - Day 2

July 24, 2012

Hollywood, CA

I slept in until 10am or so while Ihab went to work by 6am. I had plans to find somewhere to get my haircut because I was desperately in need. One of the Loews bartenders recommended this place called Wax Poetic Salon in Burbank. SO I took a chance and went.

Thanks to Daisy for hookin' it up with a fresh cut!

I was driving back to Hollywood, from Burbank, and was at a stop light right in front of Warner Bros - Hi Wielo!!

Ihab was still at work after I got my haircut so I ordered some room service for lunch

I only ate half of this club sandwich since it was ginormous but delicious

The beautiful view from the club lounge at Loews Hollywood - if you look at the upper left side of the picture, you'll see a oriental looking building and it's a Japanese restaurant. I must visit there next time.

My FAVORITE picture…it reminds me of Greece

The helicopter landing pad for the hotel

 I love mirrors

Loews Hollywood lobby

We were walking Hollywood blvd

Lucy!!

On our way back to the hotel to eat, we decided to stop at the Guinness World Records Museum

 Oh Mario!

Two days was far too short but we had a lot of fun and saw a lot of new things. This must be an annual trip Mr. Kherati OR we can at least meet somewhere new, once a year!!

Until next time….

This means skype date soon!!

CALIFORNIA - Day 1

July 23, 2012

Hollywood, CA

My friend, Ihab, currently lives in Maryland working at a Loews property and he texts me that he was selected to be on the task force to help out at Loews Hollywood. I was so excited and proud for him and told him that I couldn't believe he'll be so close but still far when he's in California (and I live in Vegas). A week goes by and I'd missed his call since I was at work and texted him on a Sunday afternoon (before I left the house for work) telling him that I'll call him Monday because I'm off. Here's how the conversation went:

Kristina: "I have off tomorrow."
Ihab: "Wanna come so we can do breakfast, lunch and dinner??"
Kristina: "I'll only drive if I can come for Monday and Tuesday."
Ihab: "I'll work a half day Tuesday."
Kristina: "K. Here's the plan. I work until 11pm today (Sunday) but I'm going to leave straight from work and drive there (I don't like driving during the day) then leave Tuesday night.
If you're down, I'll pack now."
Ihab: "Aight, I'm game."
Kristina: "K! Call you when I'm leaving work!"

My GPS told me 4 1/2 hour drive so I made it in 3 1/2 hours. It was like a competition between me and GPS!

The view from the 19th floor at Loews Hollywood

The lady at Concierge told us it's a long walk from the hotel to Sunset Blvd but we decided to do it anyways. It was a nice walk…until I realized that I wore cute looking sandals and NOT comfortable ones. I got two huge blisters on the palms of my feet. The worst place to get them. We stopped and luckily there was an H&M on the blvd and I bought some other flats. We had to cab it back because of that and we were both tired from walking and the sun.

Here are some pictures of things we saw on Sunset blvd.

I always take Elvis pictures since my mom saw him live in Chicago when she was 14 years old and I know she loves him.

My Greek people representin'!! Jennifer Aniston has several huge Smart Water signs on buildings.

Along with my feet hurting, I was dehydrated. So we stop at a Mel's Diner and ask for water. My choice was a small or large bottle so I go for large. I was then brought out this large Evian glass bottle of water. We had him pour it in two small plastic cups since we were still walking but I thought, "Only in LA do you receive a huge glass bottle of water for $5."

We're walking and I saw this and started laughing. Again, only in LA.

How about this billboard advertisement of naked people showering each other with bottles of I thought it was alcohol but when I looked it up online, it looks like either perfume or body wash. Body wash would make sense but since this is the picture for the ad, anything could be possible. Look up "Tom Ford Portofino Neroli" look at the pictures and you be the judge.

We made our way to Hollywood blvd and I found my new man!

I LOVE Pierce Brosnan. So elegantly handsome.

Ihab and I took at hour break at the hotel, after walking to Sunset blvd, and we signed up (like actual tourists) to go on one of those celebrity house tour bus things. It was 2 hours long and they take you to sunset blvd, rodeo drive and other popular streets then sight see fancy homes.

Ihab loved this car.

The tour bus driver said that this is the hotel that Pretty Woman was filled at the end when Richard Gere comes here to find Julia Roberts.

We decided to go to Loews Santa Monica and walk The Pier!

 Loews Santa Monica

When we first started walking down the pier, we were on the left hand side and realized halfway down that, that was not the right side to be walking on.

Orlando friends!

The seafood restaurant we ate at called The Lobster. This was the most delicious Octopus, Scallops and Salmon that I've ever tasted. I recommend this place a thousand times and plan on going back there again!!

When we were walking Santa Monica blvd, seeing the Ocean Ave sign reminds me of the famous song by Yellowcard…."we were both 18 and it felt so right sleeping all day, staying up all night.."

Getting Ihab to walk the beach in shoes and jeans was priceless..

WAVES!

FEET!

Ihab holding my purse so I could fix my jeans and put my shoes back on….also priceless

We should all go to work with a surf board and suitcase in hand. (this made me think of you, Omar!)

What an awesome way to catch up with friends. Skype does no justice for actually being together though it is a great substitute. We were tourists together, discussed our careers (since we worked for Loews together), talked about what we want in the future…just enjoyed each other's company. What else are friends for?!
